Leads in installations of IPTV over coax and phone lines
“Clearly, HomePNA technology has achieved tremendous traction in the market – especially around IPTV,” said Gabi Hilevitz, Chief Executive Officer of CopperGate. “We are proud that our blazing fast technology is delivering such high fidelity HD video to so many more customers around the world.”
HomePNA is the only ITU-T home networking standard over coax and phone lines and it delivers up to 320 Mbit/s of transmission – more than any other home networking technology. HomePNA is perfect for coax installations. There are now more than 25 certified products supporting HomePNA, more than any other coax networking technology. Leads way towards next home networking standard, G.hn
“Adding power line technology to our HomePNA coax and phone line technology opens up many new markets globally and better prepares the company for the exciting new ITU home networking standard, G.hn,” said Gabi Hilevitz, Chief Executive Officer of CopperGate. “We are not limited to a single wire, a single technology standard or a single way of thinking. Now, service providers globally will receive greater choice, flexibility, capability and value from one leader– CopperGate.”
“It’s very important that power line technology is now being included in international standards bodies like the ITU and IEEE, helping to promote a common power line networking approach worldwide,” said Jaime Fink, Vice President of Technology and Strategy, 2Wire, Inc. “CopperGate's acquisition of power line technology should help accelerate delivery of the 3-wire capable G.hn standard that carriers want.”
“For a number of years, it has been In-Stat's position that service operators desire to use multiple existing-wire mediums to offer them flexibility and cost-effectiveness for video distribution deployments. The capability to use two mediums (a pair) is an advantage compared to one medium, and three mediums ‘beats a pair,’" observed Joyce Putscher, Principal Analyst at market research firm In-Stat.
“We at iSuppli are very bullish on G.hn. It makes a lot of sense for the market and with the Conexant acquisition, CopperGate appears to now have all the pieces necessary to become an early leader with compliant products in the market,” added Steve Rago, Principal Analyst at the market analyst firm iSuppli. “It’s pretty significant news.”

New chipset delivers the highest user throughput for Telco IPTV applications over existing home coax and phone wires while lowering the cost Grapevine, TX, Tel Aviv, Israel, and Newark, CA, November 7, 2006 - Today at TelcoTV, CopperGate Communications, the leading provider of standards-based technology for home networking of high speed entertainment data over existing wires, announced today its CopperStream™ CG3110, the next generation of it’s highly successful HomePNA 3 compatible solutions. The CG3110, which operates over both phonelines and coax, enables equipment manufacturers to increase user throughput while driving down the cost of high-speed, home networking products.
"Coppergate is well ahead in its plans to take its technology into the mainstream,” said Gabi Hilevitz, CopperGate CEO. “The CG3110 builds on the success of the CG3010 chipset, currently being deployed by major Telcos worldwide for in-home distribution of new IPTV services. It delivers the highest user throughput for Telco IPTV applications of any no-new-wires home networking technology while helping to drive the cost of integrating a complete HomePNA 3 interface down to under $10.
Like the CG3010 chipset, the CG3110 features guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) which insures delivery of each data stream with defined bandwidth, latency, jitter and error rate. “The current design wins that HomePNA3 has won shows momentum for the technology's ability to meet the market need for delivering a solution that delivers the bandwidth and QoS required by IPTV applications in the home such as broadcast TV and networked entertainment data,” stated industry analyst IdaRose Sylvester, of IDC.
CopperStream™ CG3110 Chipset
The CG3110 includes the amplifiers, filters, ADC, and DAC, complete PHY, MAC, Link Layer Control, a new Ethernet MAC and a choice of host interfaces including MII/RMII and Ethernet. The device incorporates a powerful RISC processor capable of running the entire HomePNA 3 protocol stack on chip making it a true system on chip solution. The CG3110 adaptation layer enables transparent bridging to other networks, such as 802.11, 100BaseT Ethernet, or UWB with its protocol intact making it an ideal high-speed multimedia backbone for networking real-time data.
The CG3110 will be sampling to customers in Q4 2006 and is already being designed into a variety of computing and consumer electronics devices including residential gateways and set-top boxes for home and multi-tenant unit applications. Products are expected to begin shipping the first half of 2007.
CopperGate is exhibiting at the TelcoTV Conference and Expo in Booth 1421 and Rich Nesin, Vice President of Marketing (who is also President of HomePNA) is speaking tomorrow from 2:10 – 3:10 PM on the subject of Broadband Access Networks.
