Multi-Dwelling and Multi-Tenant Units (MDU/MTU), such as apartment buildings and condominiums, house a significant portion of the population worldwide, especially in high-density areas. Service providers are seeking cost-effective ways to deliver Triple-Play-capable high-speed broadband access to residents of MDUs.

CopperGate’s MDU/MTU solution, based on the CopperStreamTM technology, enables service providers to deliver Triple Play services over the coaxial wiring infrastructure already in place in MDUs. A typical service would comprise:

• FTTB as the “fat pipe” that delivers the services to the building, typically terminated either in the basement or on the roof.
• HomePNA-based Ethernet-over-Coax as an extension of the access network from the fiber termination to each of the apartments in the building.

The multi-band capability of HomePNA V3.1 also enables establishing a multimedia home network over coax in each of the apartments without interfering with the Ethernet-over-Coax access network. MDU/MTU specific requirement such as security, SLA, centralized management and configuration, and noise immunity are supported.
